Patients of Chelyabinsk region will listen how to prevent cancer of reproductive system

03.04.2014

On March 26 at 17:00, in Chelyabinsk, Patients’ School" will be held dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cancer of the female reproductive organs. At this free educational outreach event organized by Interregional Public Movement " Movement Against Cancer" and non-profit partnership "Equal Right to Life" experts will talk about how to keep a woman's health and prevent the development of gynecological malignancies, how to beat dangerous disease in case of occurrence and how to receive social and legal protection guaranteed by the law.

Today Chelyabinsk region is among the top ten Russian regions with the highest cancer rates: every year about 15,000 Southern Ural residents learn about their terrible diagnosis. The number of cancer patients in the region increased by 2-2.5% each year. In women the most common types of cancer are breast cancer and gynecological malignancies. At the same time, gynecological malignancies can be successfully treated; the disease can be stopped and even completely cured if timely diagnosis and proper treatment are in place.

However, according to oncologists, early diagnosis is a problem: cancer is detected too late in about a quarter of all patients, when it is stage IV. According to the chief oncologist of Chelyabinsk region Andrey Vazhenin, the one-year mortality of cancer patients is 24 per cent in the region, and mainly those patients die within the first year whose cancer was diagnosed at a late stage. The most common reason for this situation is that people seek medical care too late. Therefore the main task of Patients Schools, which are held throughout Russia to help the government reach its targets in the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer, was and remains a comprehensive medical, psychological and legal support to each patient, development of a culture of prevention examinations and attention to people's own health.

The event program:
• Visitors of Patients' School will be greeted by Coordinator of Chelyabinsk branch of interregional public movement "Movement Against Cancer" Tatiana Viktorovna Frolova.
• In the medical unit of the School, presentation on the prevention of gynecological malignancies will be delivered by gynecologist-oncologist, cand. med. sci., associate professor Svetlana Anatolievna Nagulo.
• During organizational and legal unit, lawyer Georgiy Sergeevich Stepanenkov will talk about social and legal protection of the rights and interests of cancer patients, as well as receiving free medical care and medicines under the program of state guarantees.

After lectures, participants of Patients' School will have an opportunity to ask questions to experts and get advice on individual cases.

Patients’ School will be held at orthopedic showroom "Ortos" located at the following address: Chelyabinsk, Rossiiskaya street, 224
