The interregional public movement "Movement against cancer" was created by cancer patients, their families and physicians, with the support of the non-profit partnership "Equal Right to Life" to draw attention of public and authorities to the problem of access to innovative treatments for cancer in the Russian Federation inform the public about modern and effective means of diagnosis and treatment of malignant neoplasms.

The Movement's core is comprised of people who have managed to stop the disease, or have such an aim. At the same time, the Movement Against Cancer is not a small patient organization. It is exactly a broad public movement that united prominent experts in oncology, opinion leaders, politicians, businessmen, creative professionals, athletes and journalists.

Branches of Movement Against Cancer operate in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Petrozavodsk, Chelyabinsk, Gatchina (Leningrad region), Novosibirsk, Kazan, Vladivostok, and Ulyanovsk.

What Movement Against Cancer advocates for

The National Oncological Program and the new insurance system of drug supply should ensure access for all cancer patients, regardless of their disease stage and disability status, to the most up-to-date and effective diagnosis and treatment, as adopted in most of developed countries.

All expenses for the provision of medicines for cancer patients and innovative testing methods to identify individual characteristics of patient's tumor must be born by the government, which guarantees the provision of free medical care.

In Russia, the latest treatment standards and protocols shall be used in oncology, which present the latest advances in medicine and are already implemented in developed countries.

Activities of Movement Against Cancer

Movement Against Cancer, by interacting with deputies of the State Duma and the Federal Assembly, with leadership of the Ministry of Health, Roszdravnadzor, Mandatory Health Insurance Fund and the regional health authorities, is seeking decisions from legislative and executive authorities for the benefit of cancer patients.

Representatives of the Coordination Council of the Movement are members of the expert group of the Public Council for the protection of patients' rights under the Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and Social Development (Roszdravnadzor), contribute to the implementation of the National Cancer Program, and to rebuilding the national cancer care service.

Within the framework of collaboration agreement with Roszdravnadzor, Movement Against Cancer participates in the compilation of personalized register of patients with oncological disease

The Movement is partnering with the state and public health authorities to increase public awareness about the programs of clinical examination and mass screening for early detection of cancer. With this purpose Movement Against Cancer held the following events in the capital and regions:

* Patients' Schools (with participation of oncologists, Movement activists, lawyers and psychologists);

* Forums of Movement Against Cancer (with participation of patients, doctors, officials, opinion leaders);

* Outreach events (OncoPatrol, pickets, exhibitions);

* Distribution of campaign literature and presence in the media.

Movement Against Cancer cooperates with key patient organizations in Russia and coordinates joint action with them.

The Movement maintained partnership relations with major research centers in oncology, pharmaceutical companies, and medical institutions in the regions.
